Fontana Automotive –
A History Dedicated to Building Better Engines
It was back in 1950 when Joe Fontana fielded his first modified car during the pioneering years of NEAR and the United Stock Car Club in Connecticut.  Racing was in his blood.  His dad let him use the green garage in their backyard as a base for fiddling with engines and figuring out ways to make them go faster!  From that garage came the “Fly’n Jimmy”, an engine that pushed the envelope and had a reputation for winning races.

Flash forward to 1988, after years of “playing grown-up” as an aerospace engineer and corporate CEO, racing fever had a hold of Joe.  He still found time in the 70’s and 80’s to set speed records at the Bonneville Salt Flats. It was at this time that Joe was ready to continue with his real passion FULL TIME, building race engines – BIG BLOWN HEMI ENGINES.  Engines for dragsters, engines for pulling trucks, engines for Baja trucks, engines for road racers, even engines for drag boats. This was the beginning of Fontana Automotive.

Today, Fontana Automotive is known as a leading designer and supplier of 4 cylinder and other motor engine parts around the world.  The success Fontana engines have brought to drivers in the American race car circuits like the USAC, ARDC, WMRA and NAMA also have realized much success in Australia and many other countries.  Fontana Automotive – Dedicated to Building Better Engines!
